Before using the instruments for the first time, contact the trainers below for mandatory training.
Users are expected to perform experiments independently and must be adequately trained to ensure proper use of the instruments.
How to make reservation
Prior to use, it is mandatory to reserve instruments through the booking platform of the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
If you don’t have an account to access the booking platform, please contact our ICT service staff at ‘informatica.biomed@unipd.it’.

Before your session
There are several types of water, depending on what you need. This includes a range from Type III/IV all the way up to Type I/I+ for more sensitive applications.
Type II Water also known as Pure water has high levels of purity and low conductibility (<1 µS/cm), but the resistivity is not necessarily 18.2 MΩcm-1.
It is not considered “ultrapure,” but still pure enough for specific use.
If needed, this water can be filtered with a 0.22 µm filter.
It can be used for a wide range of applications such as
- general Lab practices in Microbiological Analysis;
- solution and media preparation;
- media preparation and dialysis process;
- rinsing glassware;
- heating baths
Type I Water (also known as Ultrapure water with MilliQ grade) is the purest water that can be produced. It has high levels of purity, low conductibility (<0.056 µS/cm) and 18.2 MΩcm-1 resistivity. This water is 0.22 µm filtered.
It’s used for the most critical applications and advanced analytical procedures, for example:
- Graphite Furnace Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (GFAAS);
- Gas Chromatography (GC);
- Liquid Chromatography for small molecules and macromolecules separation, including High and Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC and UPLC)
- Liquid Chromatography and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS and ICP-MS)
- Cell and Tissue Cultures
- Molecular Biology
MilliQ water should be taken as needed in cylinders, bechers or small laboratory containers.
After your session
At the end of the session, check that the taps are closed. In case of problems/alarms, please notify to the technical staff.
