Specific indication for the facility
During your session
Instruments placed in this room may not be moved without extraordinary maintenance.
- The sonicator must be placed inside a cabinet, and the cabinet door must remain closed during sonication, as aerosols may form during use.
- Wear appropriate hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs) and disposable gloves.
- Check that the probe tip is correctly positioned in the center of the sample and that the sample is placed on a solid surface.
- DO NOT hold the sample by hand while using the sonicator.
- Take great care to avoid contact between the probe tip and the container holding the suspension/mixture to be sonicated. When sonicating small volumes, prefer plastic containers to avoid contact between the probe and glass containers.
- If a different probe needs to be used, take care when unscrewing and screwing it back on to ensure that the membrane on the main body remains intact and properly fixed.
- Be careful to adjust the sonicator power according to the type of probe used (i.e., small, medium, large); using a small probe at excessive power may damage the probe’s functionality.
- Use the sonicator only with biological agents of Group 1 (according to Annex VIII of Legislative Decree 81/2008).
- Report to the staff the presence of incorrect behavior.
After your session
- DO NOT leave anything in the room and on the shelves.
- After use, it is MANDATORY to maintain clean the instrument and surfaces (if you need, see specific operating procedures posted in the room [see “User support material”]).
- If you remove part of the instrument that you don’t use, after your session replace it in the correct way in the instrument. DO NOT LEAVE part of the instrument in different places of the room.
- The collection and disposal of waste produced by the ordinary use of the instruments are the responsibility and competence of the producer. The collection and conferral to the office of competence remains the responsibility of the producer.
How to make reservation
Prior to use, it is mandatory to reserve instruments through the booking platform of the Department of Biomedical Sciences.
